From Mr. Jones
Check your progress. Start the next step.
This week, students used real academic information to decide what deserves their attention next. Sophomores completed their first recurring grade check, while seniors paired a grade check with the first step of the financial-aid process. The goal in both classes was practical: know where you stand, choose the right next action, and follow through.
This week in SQUAD
Progress checks and purposeful next steps
Students reviewed StudentVUE and Canvas, identified missing or high-impact work, and prioritized tasks by their effect on course grades—not simply by which assignment looked easiest.
Students should continue using Canvas to confirm their individual submission status. The class-site labels describe what was covered in class, not whether a specific student has turned it in.
What we worked on
Different stages. Shared responsibility.
First biweekly grade check
Sophomores completed their first recurring Grade Check by reviewing every class in StudentVUE and Canvas. They identified missing assignments, low scores, feedback, and deadlines, then selected the work with the greatest potential grade impact. Students also finalized their four-week Sophomore Success Plans and used remaining time for priority work.
Open SQUAD 10 materials →Grade check and Financial Aid Launch
Seniors reviewed their academic progress and began the financial-aid process through one private pathway. FAFSA students created or confirmed their FSA ID; ORSAA students reviewed the official guidance and took the first setup steps. Students were not expected to complete a full FAFSA or ORSAA application, and they should complete only the pathway that applies to them.

Family conversation starter
“Which assignment would make the biggest difference if you finished it next?”
Ask your student how they know it is the highest-impact choice and what support, information, or time they need to complete it.
Celebration & highlight
Starting a complicated process without having to finish it all at once.
Seniors practiced breaking financial aid into a safe, manageable first step, while sophomores practiced turning grade information into a realistic priority. Both are habits students can reuse throughout the year.
