Activity directions

What to do

Follow these steps and use your completed document during the class discussion.

01

Step 1

Open the Google Doc and make your own copy.

02

Step 2

Read the support guide and compare the vague request with the stronger model.

03

Step 3

Choose three scenarios. For each one, identify the best person or office and write what you could actually say.

04

Step 4

Identify one real question, request, or conversation that could make school more manageable this month.

05

Step 5

Keep your completed document. Send a message only when the need is real and you are ready to ask for help.

Model the skill

A strong request makes the next step clear.

Students do not need perfect wording. They need enough information for the other person to understand the problem and respond usefully.

Name the problem

Explain what is confusing, missing, incorrect, or getting in the way.

Say what you tried

Mention the directions you reread, the work you started, the person you already contacted, or another step you attempted.

Ask for one next step

Request a meeting, clarification, feedback, an updated record, a priority list, or another specific form of help.
